The benefits of massage for the employer have been well-documented.

Studies show regular massage therapy can lower stress and avoid stress related disease and skeletal injury reducing absenteeism. An employee who is taken care of will perform more efficiently as well as foster good morale which will give your company a more competitive edge, not to mention the benefits to the individual.

What employer wouldn't want to lessen or eliminate the pain associated with repetitive motion or  joint and muscle aches which we experience when we hold ourselves in the same position for hours each day? Wouldn't we all like to sleep more soundly? Or be better able to combat a seasonal virus? Massage stimulates blood and lymph flow, improves joint mobility and boosts immune function, all with a positive effect on general health and well-being. Even a quick, 15-minute chair massage can relieve fatigue and spark creative ideas.

The bottom line for today's employers is a workforce of healthier, happier and more energized team members which makes for a stronger, more creative and productive work place community.

Massage therapy is not only effective in relieving existing pain and discomfort, but it is also an important step in preventing symptoms from occurring. Using massage therapy to help you address issues such as muscle imbalances, posture, repetitive strain injuries and stress can prevent future injuries and pain from affecting your daily life.

Regular massage therapy supports good posture by focusing on tight, shortened or sore muscles. When sitting, standing or moving good postural muscle habits will alleviate imbalance in the muscles surrounding a joint which could exacerbate discomfort and possibly lead to injury. Over time poor posture will lead to changes in muscle length, with possible consequences to the neck, shoulders and back as well as jaw pain from additional stress on muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments. When muscles become tight and shortened from being in a slouched position, weakness and lengthening will occur, as a result of repetitively being over stretched. This is a clear indication that the ligaments and joints surrounding the areas of dysfunction are not receiving the support they need from the associated muscles.

Regular massage therapy will help restore correct posture and decrease muscle tension.

Common examples for repetitive strain injuries would be the lower back, shoulders, wrists and elbows. These areas are particularly vulnerable to repetitive strain injuries as a result same motions frequently repeated. Regular massage will help prevent muscular imbalance and promote joints, ligaments and tendons being properly protected from future injury.

The number of companies offering in-house massage therapy continues to grow in Canada. Neck, back, shoulder, arm and head pain can be the price we pay for sitting at a desk or standing in one place for most of the workday, but massage therapy can help to reduce or even alleviate that pain and foster workplace wellness. Massage therapy can play a distinct role in keeping your staff, both physically and mentally engaged.
